Sparks - Educational videos

Sparks is a series of 14 videos created for Mount Sinai’s Parenting Center, to help guide new parents from month 1 to year 5 of their child's life.

The project was a huge undertaking, which saw the team direct, create and animate over 30 minutes of animated content over the course of a year.

This is a collection of some of our favourite animation from the project.

We embarked on an exciting and rewarding project with Mt. Sinai Parenting Center: creating a series of educational videos designed to support new parents navigating the exciting, and sometimes overwhelming, journey of raising a newborn. Our goal was to equip parents with valuable information about their child's development in the crucial first few months and years, acting as a key resource before their regular check-ups.

This wasn't just about presenting facts; it was about connecting with parents from diverse backgrounds. The videos incorporated live-action footage and interviews, and our animation played a vital role in explaining complex medical concepts and delving into the finer details of each topic.

With over 30 minutes of animation spread across 14 videos, efficiency was key. We adopted a modular approach to asset creation, enabling us to reuse characters and elements across multiple videos with minor tweaks. This streamlined the workflow, fostered smoother collaboration, and made it easier to incorporate feedback and make necessary changes.

The project proved to be a resounding success. The videos were incredibly well-received by both medical professionals and parents, becoming Mt. Sinai's most-viewed educational video series to date.

This meant collaborating closely with numerous stakeholders, from various hospital teams and departments, to the parents themselves. We also worked hand-in-hand with the live-action and graphic design teams to ensure a seamless and cohesive final product.

Recognizing the power of visual storytelling, we decided to centre the videos around animated characters that would allow us to explore each developmental stage through the eyes of a child.

We developed a design style that was not only easy to adapt and iterate upon, but also offered rich opportunities to animate the characters in ways that mirrored real childhood behaviours. Crucially, this style also allowed us to inject humour and a touch of exaggeration, keeping the content engaging and entertaining.
